The materials for this project started life as elm beams from an old barn on the family property. All of the beams were cut locally from native woodlands in the early 1800’s. Each beam had between 80-100 cast iron handmade embedded nails, each of which had to be removed to make the wood usable. This time consuming task revealed some exceptional timber, with a striking grain and warm autumn colours running throughout.
